The Starks trace their descent from Brandon the Builder and the ancient Kings of Winter. For thousands of years, they ruled from Winterfell as Kings in the North, until Torrhen Stark, the King Who Knelt, chose to swear fealty to Aegon the Dragon rather than give battle. Their blazon is a grey direwolf on an ice-white field. The Stark words are Winter Is Coming.

Jon has a natural ability to read people, a survival trait learned as a child. Everything he has in his favour — education, breeding, high status — are all due to one man’s preference, so learning about others and how to best respond to them have all been vital to Jon’s continued life in Winterfell. He would have lost his home long since to Catelyn’s ire otherwise, alienating his family and disappointing his father. Instead, he is kind to his siblings, loving and being loved by them. Bran’s accident leaves Jon devastated, and he and Robb share a mutual regard, being close in age. He is fond of Rickon and even of Sansa, though his relationship with her is likely the most distant of any. His efforts to connect with his half-brothers and sisters are a part of his nature, for he is a warm, giving individual.

First lesson, stick em with the pointy end

It took me a while to warm to Jon, but I think his talks with Tryion really showed the pain he has felt all his life about being a bastard and being an outsider.

He can sometimes be stubborn but its usually because he is desperate to help his family. His friendship with Sam is simply lovely though and I’m sure he will need his new brotherhood as they now ride north of the Wall

The boy facing him is no king. Robb Stark’s a boy, still green around the gills, too few winters under his belt. There aren’t that many years between them — more than a handful and less than a decade, but enough for Charles to be allowed call him a boy.
